During July in Kachin State, Burma army Colonel Khin Maug Cho the Tactical commander based in Hpakant instructed 3 battalions (number 40, 388 and 389 based near Hopin Township and the surrounding areas) to forcibly collect minimum 100 young men from Hopin Township, for service in the SPDC's armed forces, the Tatmadaw. Sources said that in other places in Kachin State, the SPDC is increasing forced recruitment and it will continue throughout August.

Poor and already oppressed youths will be forced to be so called "soldiers" in the Tatmadaw where the main task is to control the people of Burma, as the military dictatorship regime has done since 1962.

Earlier in July the SPDC's commander in Kachin State, Maj-General Ohn Myint, said in a speech that the "SPDC shall kick KIO up to the mountains, if they persist in their demands for an autonomous Kachin State." What a strange statement just before the start of the final session of the NC. With that attitude I can see reasons for the SPDC to increase the number of troops in the forces.

On May 1, 2007 six labour activists was talking about labour rights at the American Centre in Rangoon. The six democratic labour activists were all arrested, on August 5 - one of their former defence lawyers said that "they could face a long term in prison or even life imprisonment".

Again the military junta's court organization prepares to send democratic and honest people to prison!

In mid July the UWSA's forces along the Shan - Thai border was ordered by SPDC to relocate up to the north of Shan State, to areas along the Shan - Sino border.

Later on in July, the Wa leaders had a meeting in Pangsang, where they decided to not obey the military junta's order. UWSA's HQ has instructed their units to prepare for war by arming their reservists, storing weapons, ammunition and field-rations.

Recently two top SPDC officers, Major-General Min Aung Hlaing commander of the Triangle Command and Maj-Gen Mya Win Director of Artillery of Ministry of Defence visited the Monghsat and Mongton Townships, areas where a lot of UWSA Battalions are based.

Until now the Burma army and UWSA were allied, particularly UWSA's 171 Brigade at the command of Wei Hsueh Kang. The question is - what is going on now between the junta-regime in Naypyidaw and their former very good ally the UWSA?

The world and the oppressed people of Burma are waiting for the result of SPDC's National Convention. Can we be optimistic or do we need to be prepared for the worst?

In September we are supposed to know; but is the international community ready, if the result turns out to be negative for the population of Burma?

The international community has to increase the pressure against the world's most brutal military dictatorship regime the SPDC junta in Naypyidaw.

It is high time to give the poor and oppressed people of Burma democracy and security.

The world must send a very clear signal to the generals in Burma, with the use of a language they will understand!

I can see three reasons for the international community to take actions strong enough against the military dictatorship regime in Burma.

* The gross and grave Human Rights Violations.

* The large-scale productions and trafficking of Drugs.

* SPDC's Nuclear program and the WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) ambitions.
