Speech Contest in Japanese held for Myanmar Refugees in Japan
The ceremony of the speech contest was held in Bunka Centre, 6-14-1, Shinjuku, Tokyo in Japan on 4thMarch 2006 from 18’30 to 21’00. The function was organized by the People’s Forum on Burma (PFB). Before the speech contest, the contestants were given a training workshop from 4th February to 4th March and it was organized by Mr. Kuroiwa Yoko. Individuals from different Myanmar originations attended the workshop.
The situation in Burma was introduced in brief as the first part of ceremony. Seven contestants from NLD, CNN, SND and so on participated in the contest. Each of them was given five minutes to speak in Japanese on their own chosen topic concerning their experiences of migration to Japan.
Nan Cho Wint Mon from SND was awarded the first prize for her speech. She expressed her feeling about Shan People, who are really in needs. She said that Shan People are forgotten by the world.
The second part of the ceremony was time for Question and Answers on the topic they gave. Then the prizes were given to the winners. Delegations from different NGOs in Japan and some Myanmar people attended the function. The ceremony finished with expressions of thanks to the guests and the contestants.
