Time for the International Community to Change Strategy Against the SPDC
In 2006, the prominent democracy activist Su Su Nway received the Humphrey Freedom Award from the Canadian-based Rights and Democracy group.
On August 28, pro-SPDC thugs and plainclothes security officers brutally dragged her away from a peaceful demonstration in Hledan in Ranggon. Fortunatly Su Su Nway was able to escape from the site. Therefore she now is in hiding from the SPDC authorities.
The problem for this brave women is that she have heart disease, arthritis and hypertension, after she was detained in May, for three weeks in Rangoon’s Kyaikkasan Stadium. Su Su Nway acutely needs medical treatment, but the oppressive junta authorities are hunting for her. Due to the risk for arrest, she can not go to hospital.
According to the AAPP (Assistance Association for Political Prisoners) at least 131 people have been arrested during the demonstrations against the rise in fuel prices. Unconfirmed reports say that those brave activists has been moved out of the notorious Insein Prison, their recent locations is so far unknown.
Once again the military junta crack down on their own population.
Since 1962 the people of Burma has been brutally oppressed by the military junta regime. Particularly people in the ethnic minority states where the conditions are completely unacceptable!
As far as I am aware the strategy of non-violent actions has never in the history worked against dictatorship regimes. And it seems that it will not work against the world’s most brutal military dictatorship regime the SPDC junta in Burma.
Compare this with Nazi-Germany or the Serbian genocide regime in Belgrade. The western world did not negotiate with Hitler’s regime, the western countries’ armies fought against Nazi-Germany and liberated Europe. In the Balkans, the Serbian genocide operations were going on until the day international forces stopped the aggression with military actions.
It is high time for the international community to change the strategy on Burma, to end the soft actions against the SPDC, the use of diplomacy, political and economic sanctions which are not effective.
The world needs to increase the pressure against the junta generals in Naypyidaw. Maybe applying some kind of military pressure against the SPDC regime will be necessary?
