In the interest of the nation, I stand ready to cooperate with the Government in order to make this process of dialogue a success and welcome the necessary good offices role of the United Nations to help facilitate our efforts in this regard.
U GAMBIRA and ASHIN NAYAKA provide a rare glimpse into the movement behind Myanmar’s monk- led uprising. Their message: the uprising is not over and the world must keep up the pressure. Religious orders of monks have been the face of Myanmar (Burma) since Buddhism was introduced here more than 1000 years ago. For a monk to involve himself in politics or to hold a political post is contrary to the ethical code of Theravada Buddhism. But in Myanmar today, this spiritual philosophy, rooted in compassion and non-violence, has assumed unexpected dimensions of defiance and recalcitrance, as monks challenge the hegemony of the military junta that rules our country.
While the whole world is condemning the Junta after it’s brutal crackdown against peaceful demonstrators in Burma, Chinland Guardian has a chance to interview Harn Yawnghwe one of the most capable strategists and influential leaders among Burma’s pro-democracy movement. Harn Yawnghwe is director of National Reconciliation Program and Brussels based Euro-Burma Office. He is senior advisor to Ethnic Nationalities Council (ENC) the council that represent 7 non-Burman ethnic states. Harn Yawnghwe is the son of Sao Shwe Thaike the last prince of Yawnghwe and the first president of the Republic of Union of Burma.
The R.C.S.S stands with the people and monks of Burma as the dictators use violence against them. We are ready to help and protect the people and the monks.
The SDU, on behalf of the people of Shan State, is saddened by the recent crackdown of military regime or SPDC on the peaceful demonstration of monks and people, resulting in hundreds of arrest and 17 wounded and at least, 1 death, according to the latest reports. It is a tragedy that the SPDC could not heed the numerous suggestion of international community and the peoples of Burma to embrace reconciliation stance, through tripartite dialogue – between the SPDC leadership, NLD and all ethnic political parties - to end the decades long conflict.
